Blake Stone

joliet criminal lawyer blake stone

Blake Stone runs his practice by one simple, time-tested, rule: treat every client like family. While this concept is straight-forward, it is almost completely unheard of in today's legal market. When you need a criminal defense attorney, the stakes are high – your livelihood, your reputation, and your very freedom may be on the line. During these critical moments, you need a lawyer in your corner who not only understands these things and cares, but also knows you as a person. Somebody that will go to bat for you just like he was representing his own mother or brother. That's what you get with Blake Stone.

What differentiates Blake Stone from any other criminal defense attorney in the area is what doesn't show up on the resume – things like grit, small town values, a humble beginning in a Southern Illinois trailer park, the son of a waitress and an oil refinery worker, a combat veteran of the war in Iraq. When you hire a defense attorney, you need a lawyer who knows what "I've got your back" is all about. These words mean something. To Blake Stone, these values are more than words, they are a way of life and a promise made and kept with each client.

Blake Stone leverages over 20 years of prosecutorial and military legal experience in bringing to bear a zealous defense at each step in the proceedings. Blake formerly served as a felony prosecutor in the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office, in the Felony Trial and Special Prosecutions Bureaus. He also served as one of two Assistant State's Attorney's assigned to the DuPage County Major Crimes Task Force (homicide and non-parental child abduction cases) and the DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force (arson and fire-related insurance fraud cases). Blake also served as a prosecutor for the DuPage Metropolitan Enforcement Group (felony drug delivery, manufacturing, and possession with the intent to deliver cases).

He also brings to bear significant experience in juvenile court (delinquency and abuse/neglect matters), domestic violence court, and formerly served as the supervisory attorney in the highest volume DUI courtroom in DuPage County. He is a graduate of the National College of District Attorneys Career Prosecutor Course and has taught courses to law enforcement and fire investigators on Fourth Amendment (search and seizure) and Fifth Amendment (custodial interrogation) best practices.

Blake also formerly served as an Assistant Illinois Attorney General, both as a criminal prosecutor in the Trials Assistance Bureau and as a civil litigator in the General Law Bureau. Blake also has large law firm experience as a former Associate Attorney with the Chicago-based law firm Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP.

Following the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001, Blake volunteered for active duty in the United States Army Judge Advocate General's Corps and served in numerous assignments across the United States and in Iraq, where he served as Officer-in-Charge of the Multinational Forces - Iraq legal office responsible for conducting review hearings involving terrorist detainees held in U.S. custody. He most recently served as Legal Advisor to the Army Operations Center at the Pentagon. He currently serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve, assigned as Staff Judge Advocate (chief legal counsel) for an Army Reserve Training Division located at Fort Benning, Georgia.
